    Central and Eastern Europe

The Regional Network for Children in this region brings togther national NGO networks across the whole of the region.

The NGO/UNICEF Regional Network for Children in Central and Eastern Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic States (RNC) is a network of 60 non-governmental organisations dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of children. The RNC was founded in Sarajevo in June 2002. With a small Secretariat in Bucharest, the RNC brings together national NGO networks in the transition countries.

The RNC and its member organisations are actively advocating for achievement of the World Fit for Children goals that emerged from the May 2002 UN Special Session on Children. It collaborates with governments and other stakeholders to develop and implement national action plans or strategies for the next decade. The RNC takes seriously UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s challenge to hold governments accountable for their commitments and their obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The RNC seeks to empower children and young people - particularly the most disadvantaged – to advocate for their own rights and participate in decision-making around policy reform.

The RNC is part of the Global Movement for Children and is one of the nine Regional Networks belonging to the new NGO/UNICEF Global Forum promoting children’s rights and welfare.
