    Lesson for Life

Community school in Mali (c)Save the Children UK/Tim Hetherington/Network Photographers

15 million children and adults around the world will take part in the Lesson for Life on World AIDS Day (1 December 2006)!

The documents and resources to organise the 2006 Lesson for Life on children and AIDS are now available.

The GMC Convening Committee is pleased to invite you to the join the 2006 Lesson for Life!

In this site you will find the basic information to promote and organise the 2006 Lesson for Life on Children and AIDS. As in past years, you are invited to organise exciting and stimulating activities in schools and non formal spaces as part of this global campaign. These events, co-ordinated worldwide, raise the profile of children in the response to the AIDS epidemic. They aim to give millions of children a way of effectively participating in and learning about the international response to AIDS. The Lesson for Life also seeks to empower and enable national coalitions and partners to define and act meaningfully on their own national advocacy priorities within the global activity of the Lesson for Life. We thank you in advance for making this the biggest and mot effective Lesson for Life ever.

In this site, you will find the following documents and material:
    1. Action Pack
    2. Resource Booklet
    3. Poster and leaflet in different formats so that you can translate them if necessary, adapt them and/or print them.

Click here to go to the resources page for download.

Here are some key dates for you to note:

    As soon as possible
    - Hold your first planning meeting for the Lesson for Life with the organisations and institutions that might be interested in being part of it. Most of the national offices of Oxfam, Plan, Save the Children, UNICEF and World Vision have received this same information, which has also been distributed to Ministries of Education, UNESCO National Commissions and organisations engaged in the World AIDS Campaign. In the past these meetings have allocated responsibilities for the various tasks that need to be planned, and groups have also used this meeting to define a timeline and agree branding and promotion of the Lesson for Life.

    By 9 October
    - Please return the registration form to us so that we have accurate details for your coalition and plans. This is ESSENTIAL so that you receive updates from us on what is happening globally and additional details on media and communications.
    - Apply for your Materials Grant (this year GMC sends out templates of Lesson for Life materials on this CD so that you can arrange for local translation, adaptation and printing; only developing countries are eligible and the maximum amount is US $1,000 per country. See details below). Application for Materials Grant arriving after September 25 will not be considered.

    By 22 October
    - You will be informed of the decision on the Materials Grants applications, and arrangements will be made for this money to be transferred.

    By 10 November
    - Please send us the latest update on your plans for the Lesson for Life in the country. The GMC Secretariat needs this information at this time to ensure that your plans are included in information given to journalists, so that your country’s Lesson is promoted to the world’s media before World AIDS Day.

    By 20 December
    - Please send us the Evaluation Form and as many details and documents (media clippings, pictures, videos, copies of the material produced…) as possible.

We look forward to an exciting and effective Lesson for Life. Good luck!
