The Global Movement for Children attends Catalan Parliamentary Plenary on passing of Law on Children and Adolescents

18th May 2010, Barcelona - The Law on Child and Adolescent Rights and Opportunities was passed by the Catalan Parliament by a unanimous vote but one last Wednesday in Barcelona. This was the fifth bill introduced by the Social and Citizenship Department of the Catalan Government and it gained unanimous support by the current government coalition parties as well as opposition parties. Invited by the Catalan Government, the GMC contributed to the drafting of the bill by participating in a working session of the commission as an external adviser. The GMC signs for a complaints procedure under the CRC

7th April 2010, Barcelona - The Global Movement for Children has signed a petition today to strengthen the enforcement of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child by the drafting and adoption of an Optional Protocol to provide a communications procedure. A complaints or communications procedures allows individuals, groups or their representatives, claiming that their rights have been violated by a State that is a party to a convention or covenant, to bring a communication before the relevant committee, provided that the State has recognised the competence of the committee to receive such complaints. The GMC signs on for a Global Leaders Forum

1st April 2010, Barcelona – Together with a number of international, regional and national organisations the Global Movement for Children has signed up today for the Halifax Initiative-led proposal to establish a new Global Leaders Forum that includes low-income countries. This iniciative aims at transforming the current G-20 into an international body which includes the representantion of low-income countries, many of which are suffering disporportionate impacts arising from the current world economic crisis.
