Lagos, 6 July 2010— Project Director of Cares Global Network, Mrs. Omolola Anne Famuyiwa, has appealed to all stakeholders to assist in getting the youth involved in the dissemination of information, education and media advocacy aimed at effecting attitudinal changes in the protection of the Child Rights.

She stressed the need for children to be involved in the process of understanding their rights, saying that it was unrealistic to expect them to become patriotic, democratic and responsible citizens, without prior exposure to skills and responsibilities.

Famuyiwa who made this call recently, said it was imperative to effect attitudinal change in the protection of Child Rights through adequate media for children and young people locally and globally.

The Project Director who is also the Editor of Willows Magazine cited the sixth World Summit on Media for Children and Youth, held in Karlstad, Sweden, which mandated delegates to bring children's issues to the fore as a global agenda was being set, adding that the Nigeria delegate had decided to take up the challenge of promoting a group that would bring together stakeholders to enable them mainstream children's media and give children appropriate and quality media.

The objectives of World Summit on Media for children and youth Famuyiwa noted include, achieving a greater understanding of developments in children's media around the world, raising the status of children's media and children's rights, drawing the attention of key players in media to the importance of child-related issues among others.
