2009: celebrating 20 years of the Convention
The Convention was meant to transform society, as it recognised that children are protagonists of their own development instead of being possessions of their parents and families. It required from society to act in the best interest of the child, and acknowledged their right to express their opinions and to have those opinions heard and acted upon when appropriate.

192 countries have ratified the Convention, making it the most universal human rights instrument of our time.
Why getting together again?
While important progress has occurred in these 20 years, millions of children in the world still do not fully enjoy their rights. This is why, this year, the child rights movement gets together again to renew collective and individual determination and take a further step so that the spirit of the Convention penetrates deeply in our societies, in our daily lives, and also in our governments’ actions and budgets.
Why a common banner for all?
Thousands of initiatives are being organised in 2009 to promote child rights all over the world. The Global Movement for Children proposes that we all unite around a common purpose by adopting a logo of the 20th anniversary. This will help increase the visibility of and public support to child rights and the Convention, and generate a stronger recognition of a global force that unites millions of people everywhere for the good of children.
The logo of the 20th Anniversary of the CRC is offered to be used during 2009 in all materials and actions related to child rights, so that it builds a strong sense of joint massive global action in favour of children. We envision that organisations and institutions would use the 20th Anniversary logo as an additional visual element that supports their own identity and adds value as a participating organisation in a massive effort to promote child rights. It is not meant to replace every organisation’s individual identity, but to add value to it.
How to use the 20th Anniversary logo?
We invite everyone to add the 20th Anniversary logo to all the publications, events and activities organized in 2009 aimed to promote child rights, in addition to the individual logos. The colors and proportions of the logo cannot be altered (the logo has been developed in one, two and full color for maximum flexibility), but its size and position in publications, posters, leaflets, web sites, etc. are all to be decided by each organization.
