Redlamyc and Save the Children launch Protagonistas, a child participation initiative in Peru, Paraguay and El Salvador.
Asunción, 22 March 2011 - Under the title “Protagonistas: the participation of chidren and adolescents in the creation of more democratic and inclusive societies” , Redlamyc and Save the Children launched a new child participation Project in Asunción, Paraguay, on March 22nd last
The aim of the Project is to actively engage Children and adolescents in the construction of more democratic and inclusive societies to prevent and fight the violation of children’s and adolescents’ rights. It is expected that through this participation children and adolescents have a stronger capacity to uphold their right to effectively participate in those open decision-making spaces both at local and national or international levels so as to improve child-protection policies.
Save the Children, with the support of the European Union, is leading the project, which encompasses a number of local and national organisations. The project will be implemented at three different levels: at a regional level in Latin America, at a country level in El Salvador, Paraguay and Perú and at local level in common spaces in each country, in Paraguay, for example, through the Committee of Asunción, the Committee of Villa Elisa, the association of child and adolescent workers (CONNAT) and the National Platform of Children and Adolescents.
The project seeks to promote proactive citizenship and awareness of citizen’s rights and responsibilities with the ability to establish a proactive and constructive dialogue.
