Third Latin American Workshop on Investing in Children: Advocacy Strategies in Public Policy

The Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office of Save the Children Sweden and the Latin American and Caribbean Network for the Defense of the Rights of Children and Adolescents - REDLAMYC are pleased to announce the Third Latin American Workshop on Investing in Children: Advocacy Strategies in Public Policies, which will be held from Monday, 17 to Friday 20, 2010 of May in Lima, Peru.

This workshop targets representatives of public institutions and social organizations involved in the promotion of rights of children and adolescents. Spaces are limited. Deadline for applications: Thursday 15 April.

Workshop objectives:

1. Expand the capabilities and training of professionals engaged in advocacy work in the field of public policy, especially investment in children, through the design of strategies, financing, implementation, evaluation and systematization of Political Plans for Advocacy whose purpose is to place this issue in the political-economic agenda and expand the provision of public budget resources in areas directly related to the fulfillment of human rights.

2. Contribute to the implementation of strategies to fulfill obligations under international treaties of human rights such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the International Pact of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (PIDESC), the International Convention Eliminating All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), among others.

3. Define the main lines of a concrete strategy and impact of advocacy plans for greater investment in children.

4. Contribute to the design of public policy proposals and management that adequately addresses the effects of international economic crisis on the most vulnerable population, and particularly among children and adolescents, based on the exchange of experiences in Latin America advocacy work, particularly on the issue of investment in children.
