12th July 2010, Dakar- A regional meeting on the project of the Youth and Child Mobility in West and Central Africa project will take place from July 27-30th in Senegal’s capital city. The objective of the meeting is to further deliver joint analysis and recommendations, prepare the production of the second regional synthesis document and evaluate the first phase of the project in order to plan the next phase.

The Youth and Child Mobility in West and Central Africa project was launched in 2008 by eight organisations engaged in the protection of child rights in West and Central Africa, namely: International Labour organization (ILO), African Movement of Child and Youth Labour (MAEJT), International Organization for Migrations (IOM), Plan International, Save the Children Sweden (SCS), Terre des Hommes (TdH) and UNICEF.

Their objectives were to better understand child mobility issues in West and Central Africa, evaluate child protection mechanisms among their communities and families and put togethter recommendations to improve institutional responses to these issues. The project is articulated in three parts: research in the field, analysis of mobility and programmes currently in place on child protection. The findings will be released in one final document.

The actors of this project join their forces at the regional and national levels. At the former level, a common platform and a regional committee with the 5 founding organisations has been put in place. At the latter, they collaborate through national pilot committees (CNP) regrouping government and intergovernmental agencies and NGOs from the 4 pilot countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea and Togo).
