The MAEJT holds annual African Commission meeting
20th March, 2011 - The African Commission of the African Movement of Working Children (MAEJT) held its annual meeting from 14th to 26th February in the Senegalese city of Thiès. The meeting gathered national delegates from Bénin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroun, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinée Bissau, Guinée, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, DRC, Rwanda, Senegal, Tchad, Togo and Zimbabwe.
At the meeting attendants evaluated last year’s national activities according to the Movement’s seven action areas to assess the results achieved and the progress made. Additionally, they agreed to update the follow-up surveys, evaluated the coordination follow-up system and approved the annual budget and accounts for 2011. Current lists of members and sympathisers and adhesion forms from new towns were also examined. Furthermore, delegates also discussed external financial support and the Memorandum of Understanding between Enda and the National Associations of Working Children (AEJT). Finally, the methodological approach used for the protection of Children on the Move as well as the strategies followed in successful experiences were studied.
On February 21st and 22nd, Mr. Alassane Drabo, from Plan WARO, joined the meeting to support the MAEJT in drafting the strategic plan for the next three years between Plan and MAEJT. On the 25th in the morning, delegates travelled to Dakar to meet with MAEJT’s partners: Unicef, Terre des Hommes, Save the children and the IOM to whom they presented the outcomes of their projects and activities at national levels to achieve the realization of child rights. Unanimously, partners qualified the work carried out by MAEJT as a source of inspiration for all child-rights focused actors and promised to continue to undertake projects and activities with the Movement.
