The GMC Global Secretariat
At a global level, coordination of the GMC is led by the Convening Committee, a coalition of UNICEF, Plan International, Save the Children and World Vision International, and representatives of the GMC Regional Platforms, REDLAMYC and ENDA Tiers Monde.
Up until 2009, the Global Movement for Children didn’t have an independent legal structure and was thus hosted by the members of the Convening Committee. It was first hosted by UNICEF Headquarters in NY (2000-2002), followed by Plan International in London (2003-2005) and by UNICEF in NY again until 2008.
As the GMC grew in activities and campaigns it became necessary to create a Global Secretariat to coordinate global campaigns and actions and in 2009, the GMC and the Catalan government reached an agreement by which the GMC became officially established as a legal entity in Catalonia headquartered in Barcelona. Hence, since 2009 the GMC Global Secretariat, led by its Executive Coordinator, is hosted by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
