GMC-hosted international expert meeting brings about innovative ideas for child rights

Barcelona, 4th June 2010 - The two-day experts’ brainstorming session held on 1-2 June at the Global Movement for Children Secretariat in Barcelona produced a number of interesting ideas regarding children’s rights. The participants concluded that monitoring compliance to the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Millennium Declaration is a missing link and a challenge for the children’s rights-concerned community to act upon. The GMC commissions international survey on child mortality

Barcelona, 27th May 2010 – With the U.N. MDG +10 Review Summit in September this year in mind, the Global Movement for Children has commissioned an international survey on child mortality in several developing countries. In a joint effort with TNS Gallup, the poll aims at getting new insights and input to better understand attitudes and opinions within middle classes and opinion leaders towards child mortality in these countries. El passat dimecres el Parlament de Catalunya va aprovar per unanimitat menys un vot la nova Llei dels drets i les oportunitats de la Infància i l’Adolescència, la cinquena llei impulsada des del Departament d’Acció Social i Ciutadania que ha comptat amb un suport unànime tant dels partits del Govern com de l’oposició. The GMC signs for a complaints procedure under the CRC

7th April 2010, Barcelona - The Global Movement for Children has signed a petition today to strengthen the enforcement of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child by the drafting and adoption of an Optional Protocol to provide a communications procedure. The GMC signs on for a Global Leaders Forum

1st April 2010, Barcelona – Together with a number of international, regional and national organisations the Global Movement for Children has signed up today for the Halifax Initiative-led proposal to establish a new Global Leaders Forum that includes low-income countries. This iniciative aims at transforming the current G-20 into an international body which includes the representantion of low-income countries, many of which are suffering disporportionate impacts arising from the current world economic crisis.
