CHALLENGES:
Rising food prices and the poor state of global economy are causing reversion of the declining trend in the rate of under nourishment among children.
From 1990 to 2007 the proportion of children under five who were underweight dropped only by 5 % (from 31% to 26%). With this rate of progress reducing underweight prevalence by half will not be feasible.
With China exclueded, there has been a rise of the prevalence of hunger in East Asia (excluding China)
High discrepancies in progress between the poorest and the richest in society.
