En la mañana de hoy se realizó el acto inaugural del Primer Encuentro Sudamericano de Seguimiento al Estudio Mundial sobre Violencia contra los Niños y Niñas. Esta investigación presentada por Naciones Unidas en el 2006 revelaba la preocupante situación de los países de la región sobre el tema, a la vez de presentar recomendaciones a los Estados para lograr una prevención efectiva.

UNICEF supports the reconstruction of schools in Haiti
Port-au-Prince, Haiti, 8 April 2011 – Reconstructing damaged or destroyed schools has been a UNICEF priority since last year's earthquake. It's one of the most effective ways of reintroducing normalcy to the shattered lives of children in this small Caribbean nation.
Classes resumed at St. Gerard School last April with students crowding on to the stairs of an amphitheatre-like ad-hoc structure in one part of the schoolyard.
"That situation lasted for about a month until after all the rubble had been removed and we could move the students into temporary school tents provided by UNICEF," says Sister Yola Norelus, the school's headmistress.

UNICEF takes the lead in Latin American Chapter
Latin America, 30 March 2011 - After a year of leading Plan International stepped down from the position of Latin American and Caribbean Chapter (MMI-CLAC) coordinator paving the way for the new member to take over.
UNICEF has been chosen to take the steer of the chapter for the year 2011. The lead change has been announced at the Chapter’s last meeting held in Paraguay. Paraguay to host MMI-CLAC meeting on the UNVAC study
28 March 2011 - Convened by the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the GMC and the Instituto Interamericano del Niño (IIN), Paraguay will host a subregional meeting on the recommendations of the UNVAC study to discuss and spread their content as well as to set the basis for their effective implementation process at country level.
